Research Casts Doubt on Toxic Drug Crisis in Construction: BCCSA

Created by British Columbia Construction Safety Association (BCCSA)

This report by the BCCSA challenges the prevalent notion that the toxic drug crisis is as severe in the construction industry as previously thought. Based on an extensive survey and interviews with over 650 informants in the sector, the study sheds light on the prevalence and type of substance use among construction workers. The findings reveal that cannabis and alcohol account for the vast majority of safety and health-related risks faced by workers, rather than opioids as commonly perceived. The report also critiques media reports and government actions that divert resources away from addressing more pressing issues like alcohol and cannabis abuse.
